Fly to Wembley for £77.40

If you want to avoid the hassle of trains of coaches for the lion's share of your trip to the Carling Cup final, you can fly for not more than the train price.

The Sunday February 28 match kicks off 15:00.

British Airways is offering a one-way flight leaving Manchester for London Gatwick at 06:40 landing an hour later for £39.60.

And bmi is offering a one-way flight leaving Heathrow for Manchester at 20:50 landing 70 minutes later for £37.80. That's a total of £77.40.

If you'd rather fly out at a more social time, you can leave Manchester at 12:30 for Heathrow at £40.50 one way, again on British Airways.

There are two other reasonably-priced departures on British Airways leaving 09:00 and 12:20 for Gatwick costing £49.60 one-way.

Coming home, if you want make sure you can reach the airport should there be extra time and penalties, bmi os offering a flight from Heathrow leaving 21:45 for £48.80.

From Gatwick, it takes 90 minutes to reach Wembley Stadium train station via Victoria, then across to the Tube and then via London Marylebone. An off-peak single ticket costs £11.

From Heathrow, it takes 80 minutes to reach Wembley Central Tube stop, changing at Piccadilly Circus.
A one-day off-peak Tube travelcard covering zones 1-6 costs £7.50. Don't go by train as it costs £46 return.
