United rounded off an impressive pre-season campaign with a convincing win over Valencia at Old Trafford.
As coincidence would have it, home debutant Antonio Valencia earned an assist for the reds when he beat two men and crossed from the right to opening goalscorer Wayne Rooney in the first half.
And it was that man Valencia involved in the second after the break. The Ecuadorian winger drifted in another right-wing cross, which 19-year-old midfielder Tom Cleverley dispatched.
In all this summer, United have won six build-up matches and lost one - to Bayern Munich on penalties in the Audi Cup.
Next stop is a trip to Wembley on Sunday for the Community Shield against Chelsea.
