West Ham drinking guide

Seeing as most of us will be spending a lot of money and most of our Sunday on reaching Upton Park, it makes sense to relax with a pint – and a cheap one at that – while we’re there.

So the best pub for away fans will probably be the Millers Well at 429 Barking Road.

Granted, it is a good 20-minute walk to the ground, but it is a Wetherspoons pub, so it offers bottles of San Miguel for 99p each and loads of other cheap drinks and food deals.

Besides, it’s hard to get lost on the way to the stadium as it’s straight down Barking Road.

And on the way there you can call in to the Denmark Arms, which is a bit bigger than the Millers Well and shows live football so, before setting off for the match, you can catch part the Tottenham v Arsenal match, which kicks off at 1.30pm.

It also serves decent food there between noon and 6pm and has two pool tables too. You’ll spot it opposite East Ham Town Hall.

But if you’re travelling by Tube and can’t be bothered to stray far off the beaten track, the Duke of Edinburgh at 299 Green Street, is probably for you.

It’s a 10-minute walk from the ground and can be found by turning left out of Upton Park Tube Station and looking to your right once you’ve reached the mini roundabout.

Not only is it next door to some cheep and cheerful pie shops, it offers a decent pint, which you can enjoy in one big open room.

The only downside is that it does get busy in the run up to kick off so it can take an age to get served and it can also draw the attention of police as home fans tend to trend to drink there too.

Finally a word about safety: Unless you plan to stay ultra subtle for a quick half, avoid The Boleyn Pub and The Greengate, Wine Bar, The Village and The Central, which are all on Barking Road.

A full travel guide is here and all the pubs mentioned above can be seen on the map below.
